About RightsExplained
Democratizing access to statutory legal knowledge through clear, verified, and accessible guides.
Our Mission
The legal system is intimidating by design. Statutes are written in dense, archaic terminology, and finding direct answers to basic questions—like "How long does my landlord have to return my deposit?" or "Can my landlord shut off my utilities?"—often leads to fragmented forum posts, predatory referral services, or paywalled databases.
RightsExplained was built to solve this problem. Our mission is to produce authoritative, plain-English legal education grounded strictly in primary legislative codes and official court procedures.
How We Research and Verify
Every article on RightsExplained follows a rigorous statutory verification pipeline:
- Primary Source Grounding: We pull directly from official legislative bodies (such as the Texas State Legislature and codified Property Codes), official Attorney General opinions, and county Justice of the Peace court guidelines.
- Zero Uncited Claims: Whenever we mention a deadline, mandatory fee, or legal remedy, we provide the exact section citation (e.g.,
Tex. Prop. Code § 92.103). - Regular Legislative Audits: Laws change with each legislative session. Our team reviews all published guides annually and updates content immediately when new amendments take effect.
- Plain Language Transformation: We eliminate confusing Latin phrases and legalese, turning complex rules into chronological checklists, sample demand letters, and practical steps.
Who We Are (and Who We Are Not)
